It's a party...

Brought to you by the letter "E" and the number 1! That's right! We celebrated E's first birthday Sesame Street style. Since he was only turning 1 and isn't really old enough to tell us what kind of party he wanted, we went with a Sesame Street theme. When my sister and I were younger, our Grandmother made each of us a Big Bird cake for our birthdays. As you probably know, Grandmother was so excited when we found out we were expecting E. She had been asking me for some time when I was going to have her a great grandchild. She was excited to find out that I was pregnant, and she immediately made it clear that she wanted a boy. We had all girls in the family for the past two generations, and it was time for a change she thought. During my pregnancy, her battle with cancer became more and more difficult to continue to win, and on January 31 of last year, her battle came to an end and she went to be with Jesus. She missed his birth by a month and a half, but I know that she loved him very much. I was able to use her Big Bird cake pan and her decorating tips to make E's cake. That is why we chose the Sesame Street theme.

Finger foods and cake were on the menu for the day. With board books from the dollar section and target, the table cloth and balloons that Aunt B found for a great deal at her local party store, and cupcakes to label the foods, the food table ended up being very bright and colorful.

The cake table was pretty cute, too. A personal cake for E and a large Big Bird head for his guests to share was a yummy addition to the afternoon.

There was a special table just for the kids. It was the new picnic table that E got from his Meowmaw and Papaw. They let him have it a little early so he could share it with his friends at the party. It was a hit!

E really enjoyed the food. He also enjoyed eating next to the giant Big Bird air walker balloon, another great find from that party store! If only Big Bird could have helped him keep Uncle A out of his plate. ;)

Cake time arrived. He wasn't really sure about what to do with it at first. He spent a lot of time poking at the icing with his fingers.

Then he finally figured out what to do. Yay, E! Once he got started, he did a number on his cake.
After cake it was time to open presents. He got lots of really neat things. We couldn't get pictures of everything, but here are a few.
It was a great party with lots of great friends! Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate with us. You made E's day extra special!
